Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote Sonnets from the Portuguese, her most well known work. It is a set of love poems written for the poet Robert Browning-- who first admired her poetry, then became her friend, and finally her husband. After their marriage, they moved to Italy, where their son was born.

To Robert Browning:

And now listen to me in turn. You have touched me more profoundly than I thought even you could have touched me - my heart was full when you came here today. Henceforward I am yours for everything....

- Elizabeth Barrett Browning
(1806-1861)
