Tips on Socialization

  • Enroll your dog in obedience school, especially if your dog is aggressive. Never let your dog or puppy bite or mouth the skin of a person, even in play.
  • Do not allow your dog to snap or growl at anyone.
  • Never let your dog go out without a leash or close supervision.
  • Do not let your dog run with or chase people.
  • Do not pat or praise your dog when he shows fear or viciousness. This encourages him to continue the behavior.
  • Never ask anyone, especially children, to care for your dog if they show any fear of him.

Provide Information for Others

  • Display "Beware of Dog" signs to warn people that you have a dog.
  • Keep a collar and identification tag with immunization information on your dog at all times.
  • If your dog has not been raised around children, do not let any children chase, corner or pick up your dog. He might become aggressive and bite.
