Is it fine to give a cat only dry food?

  • Yes - providing that you feed a premium-quality dry food and always make sure that supply of fresh water is available for your cat at all times.
  • Several years ago, some link between dry diets and urinary tract disease was established in cats, but it was subsequently discovered that this was due to a problem with the make-up of the dry foods at that time and not that they were dry. This has now been corrected; in fact, special dry food are sometimes prescribed to help in the treatment of cats that are suffering from urinary disease.
  • A dry food is mire convenient, more hygienic, and generally less expensive than canned or fresh foods. It also exercises the teeth and reduces the buildup of tartar, which can become a major problem in cats fed in a soft and mushy diet.
